Lil' Fella was the first born of our 2-year old nanny goat, Blanca.

He was an only-child and lived his whole life (5 months) with mama's milk, summer graze and local hay.

We separated him from the herd and lead him toward the garden. Lil' Fella suddenly realized he was solo and began to struggle.

It was then the decision was made.

My husband put down the gun.
We prepared to take this sweet goat's life with a sharp knife.

We calmed ourselves and held him. I removed the knife from my holster, stretched his sweet head toward the sky and sliced through hair and skin and meat. The blood began to run and his little body slumped to the ground.

The transition from goat to 40 pounds of meat was underway.
