Meet the vegetarian butcher
I was born and raised in a company town in Iowa, surrounded by farmland. We now live in a rural, high desert community in northern New Mexico.
In 2002, I met my husband on a river trip with mutual friendswho came with sons. I don't eat meat. My family loves meat. I want to share stories. I want to tell you how we came to raise chickens and goats and pigs with llamas standing guard. From the first rooster, the first piggy, the first sweet & lovely goats—raised with love and kindness, butchered with love and kindness. Good dogs, sweet hens, building fences, shoveling sh-t, burying guts, morning milk songs, the peep of a baby chick...it is a labor of love that inspires us to live close to our food. I want to share a perspective of how different it becomes when one meets and knows and loves one's meat. For us, our animals and community, it makes all the difference in the world.
