Picture"Burdizzo" castration tool, developed by Italian Dr. Burdizzo
Tonight we wethered our two billy kids (Flash Gordito & Frijole), just before it rained. We used a Burdizzo, a beautiful tool crafted in Italy.

"The emasculatome, Burdizzo, method involves a clamp-like tool which crushes the spermatic cord and blood vessels leading to the testicles."

Holding the billy in his lap, our kids almost nuzzle my husband as I feel for the cord. They are concerned as this is not a usual position of goat and human. Goats like to have all four on the floor.

I position the tool and squeeze for a slow count of 1-2-3-4-5...6-7.
Release. Baby goat screams reach deep. They stand around stunned for a minute, then find mom for a drink.

Now the boys can grow and thrive without the enhancement of testosterone.

The barnyard rests. The baby goats grow.

    About the butcher

I am a vegetarian. I am also a butcher. I raise animals to nourish those I love. I am grateful.
